Some say”The Last Time I Saw Paris” (a 1954 romantic drama made by MGM, loosely based on F. Scott Fitzgerald ‘s short story Babylon Revisited) is a transitional film where Elizabeth was through with films that she just modeled clothes in and became a consistant serious actress. It was directed by Richard Brooks and produced by Jack Cummings. The screenplay was by Julius J. Epstein, Philip G. Epstein and Richard Brooks. The film stars Elizabeth Taylor and Van Johnson, with Walter Pidgeon, Donna Reed, Eva Gabor, Kurt Kasznar, George Dolenz and Roger Moore. The film’s title song “The Last Time I Saw Paris” was composed by Oscar Hammerstein II and Jerome Kern and, although the song was not written explicitly for the movie, it was featured prominently throughout the flim and can be heard in many scenes, either being sung or being played as an instrumental. “The Last Time I Saw Paris” is a song about Hitler’s occupation of Paris in 1940
.
It was a war song written by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein.
I own this movie but, can’t get through it without a box of kleenex beside me. Elizabeth Taylor is such an amazingly talented actress and beautiful…truly a masterpiece of god!!!! Thank you for making such amazing, great, lovely, wonderful video tributes to her career and life thus far.
Interesting. I’ll have to look. i read the vivian vance biography…she was usually the glamorous, witty type in her plays…nothing like her “I Love Lucy” character
no, no even when i was a child i always saw the resemblance. vivian doesn’t look exactly like elizabeth, but the resemblance is uncanny. check it out some time. it’s not an insult for either of them. vivian vance was is fact a beautiful woman. she just played a middle aged married woman…and carried it off quite well.
Vivian Vance in the movie? Or Eva Gabor
i’m not trying to be an ass, but vivian vance always reminded me of elizabeth taylor.
should you have the opportunity, compare when vivian was all dolled up to elizabeth. they could have been sisters.
I have never met her but would certainly like to.
I can`t get her beauty out of my head.. She is just the most beautiful human beeing that I have ever seen. I am a woman, but when I look at her I feel happy.. It`s not like I am attracted to her or anything, but I just admire her beauty, it`s hard to believe that anyone can look that good… I dream about meeting her.. Have you ever met her, RicardBasset1956? I see you are a true fan..
OMG!
She’s so devastatingly beautiful!
My Mom looked a lot like her, so every time I see a movie of Liz Taylor I kind of imagine it’s my Mom in her youth I’m watching!
I remember the first tme I saw this movie, I was in single digit age. Yet, I knew it a tragic love story. I thought Eizabeth was so beautiful, ad fragile. I also beleive this movie was based on a F.Scott Fitzgerald novel. It was Elizabeth first top billing movie. It is still of of my favorite top ten movies of all time. Thanks
Yes, it was sad. This was made in the late Spring/early Summer 1954. Elizabeth was pregnant with Christopher (born Feb.27, 1955). They released this film in November 1954, Elizabeth was at the premiere with Montgomery Clift. In 1954 they pushed four films out of Elizabeth’s (the fashion modeling films). From November 1954, another film wasn’t released of Elizabeth’s until October 1956, “Giant”. She went from movie star to super star. Rich Bassett
Thanks for a sweet video. I’d definitely would want to watch this movie as well.
Although it looks like it might get an unhappy ending from the final clip…
